Chess

Play chess against a browser opponent on SolitaireFelt. White moves first; click a piece, then a highlighted square to move. The computer searches a few plies ahead and punishes loose pieces.

Standard chess rules: check, checkmate, stalemate, and piece movement as usual.

How to play Chess

  • White (you) moves first unless configured otherwise.
  • Click a piece to see legal squares; click a destination to move.
  • The computer plays black automatically after your move.
  • Checkmate ends the game. Stalemate is a draw.

Strategy tips

  • Develop knights and bishops before launching the queen — the CPU targets early queen adventures.
  • Control the center with pawns and pieces; rim chess gives the AI easy files.
  • Before capturing, ask what recapture opens — the engine loves hanging material.
  • Castle when the center is stable; an exposed king is easy prey for coordinated checks.
  • If losing, look for checks that force the king — even lost games teach tempo.

Common questions

How strong is the chess AI?

A short lookahead search — beatable by careful play, not grandmaster level. Good for casual practice.
