Medium sudoku removes more starting digits than our easy board, so singles appear less often and you will need candidate tracking in harder boxes.
The grid is still a standard 9×9 with nine 3×3 boxes — only the clue density changes.
How to play Sudoku Medium
- Place digits 1–9 so each row, column, and 3×3 box contains every digit exactly once.
- Given digits cannot be changed.
- New game generates a fresh puzzle. No guessing should be required on a well-formed medium grid — look for the next logical elimination.
Strategy tips
- Mark mentally which digits are still possible in each empty cell within its row, column, and box.
- Hidden singles: if a digit can only sit in one cell inside a row (or column or box), fill it even if the cell has other candidates.
- Naked pairs: two cells in a unit sharing exactly the same two candidates eliminate those digits from other cells in that unit.
- When stuck, pick the box with the fewest empty cells — constrained boxes break open faster.
- If easy sudoku feels slow, medium is the step where technique starts to matter more than scanning.
